The CLI continues to work with specific use cases that show how digital innovation can be applied to drive real-life climate action. In 2023, the CLI will select and support one new use case in the implementation and testing of innovative technologies.
Use cases should be based on strong concepts, robust partnerships and allow for the systematic extraction of learning for the benefit of other practitioners in the field, technology developers and policymakers. Ideally, use cases are in the areas covered by our annual Navigating Reports, such as digitizing MRV, registry solutions and new business models for energy prosumers. We are also interested in use cases for climate change adaptation or climate finance. The use cases should apply digital innovation to drive climate action, i.e. distributed ledger/blockchain technology, internet of things and sensors, artificial intelligence and advanced data processing methodologies.
The process to apply to the use case
programme
CLI will select and partner with one new use case to
implement, test, share learnings and make recommendations concerning the use of
technology in different contexts. The use case partner will also communicate
about these experiences, challenges and lessons learned and share capacity. We
are able to provide funding in the range of 20 – 40 k CHF. Co-financing and in-kind
support are encouraged.
To apply, please submit a short (2 pages maximum) document that includes:
- Applicant institution, responsible person, contact details
- Activities targeted by the use-case (sector, activity, geographies)
- Area of your experience in terms of (i) delivering innovative technology solutions, (ii) designing and implementing climate action and/or (iii) working in the field
- Description of the technologies applied and their potential for scale
- Overview of the benefits of the technology applied: How does it foster climate action and contribute to the implementation of the Paris Agreement? How can the use case results be used to inform policymakers?
- Other benefits on sustainable development that may arise
- Any potential harmful effects of the technology that require mitigation
- A summary of progress to date, intended forward workplan and any barrier to progressing to the organizations involved
- Information on indicative budget, required financial needs from CLI and information on co-financing and in-kind support. Available funding from CLI may vary between 20 - 40 k CHF depending on the resources, development status, implementation level etc. of the project.
Please send your application to info@climateledger.org under the reference CLI Use Case Call 2023. Applications have to be submitted the latest on 26th March 2023 at 23:59 CET. Use cases will be screened and the shortlisted applications will be contacted by the CLI for further discussions on next steps. The start of the use case project is beginning of May 2023.
